I just got my copy of the new Greg Mathieson Studio CD called "West Coast Groove" and to be honest I’m a little frustrated and disappointed!!! The songs are nice and cool but nothing really special. Of course...it’s all about the groove!! What I don’t like about the CD is the mixing. I thought the mixing was terrible because you can't barely hear the drums. And the percussion sound (Luis Conte) I thought was very high on some tracks. On the third track sounds like Vinnie is only playing the snare drum. I don’t know if the problem is w/ my stereo but I just can’t really hear the drums very clear. Vinnie is playing very simple and straight. He is playing in 4 tracks only and Abraham Laboriel Jr. is playing the rest. On the CD it has a little note that mentions that they will record a live album at the Potato w/ the new songs. So...if you guys really expecting something big on this CD I really recommend you guys just wait for the live album. Well...let’s just hope that Vinnie doesn’t break his foot again!!!

Hey thanks for the review. I think Greg's song's tend to be little on the Cheezy side sometimes. Some tunes are cool though.

I think I'll wait for the next live disc, although hopefully he'll have a new piano sound by then.....

Some of the songs are okay ("cool") but overall in my opinion I thought most of them are really boring and very poor. I listened to the CD a couple of times already and I don’t...everything sounds so computerized and electronic. Greg’s keyboard sound is very annoying sometimes and for some tracks they programmed the bass lines which I thought wasn’t a very good idea if the CD was really about "The Groove".
Guys, just wait for the live album!!!
